By all accounts, his combine and pro day throwing efforts killed any knocks on him other than "he isn't a great athlete", but you don't need to be to play QB. I think it isn't hard to be happy for him if you're not a Bama fan, especially once you see the high character he has.
That said, I don't think he's a fit here. A team like New England or Denver? Sure, makes sense, but Brees will have a few more years than Peyton/Brady right now, so AJ would sit for too long.

How about this?
I fricking hate Bama, but I LOVE Sean Payton, and I trust him to do what we have to do to be a successful team.... If he thinks AJ is good and wants to draft him, them I am behind that decision.
As for the article... Payton, being an offensive coach, is going to (naturally) be interested in what he sees from offensive players. If AJ really Looks good and CSP thinks there is any chance we would have a shot at him where we would like the value (at any point), I can see why he would go introduce himself.
Neither the article, nor the OP, said we plan to draft AJ just because CSP introduced himself to him.
