I thought about that yesterday, would't take much in a pond this size, but I would definitely do something for aeration.

ETA: Fish can swim to the surface to induce oxygen into the water passing thru their gills, crawfish can't. Remember the fish kills after the hurricanes....Crawfish can however climb to the top of an 8' trap or vegetation that breaks the surface when the water is to deep and turns stagnant...... A little food for thought....

Well there isn't any power out there, so mechanical aeriation is not an option.

I will say this, what is not seen is the wide open 55 acres behind me. You can see wind ripple on the surface in the first picture.

Also, it was just dug a few months ago, and filled up with the last couple of rains. When we drained it there was green/black water in it. I think it needs a little time to settle and appear more condusive. The water in the picture is pure run off coming across that fresh dirt.

At least that's my current justification...

I feel you though, as someone who dabbles in aquaculture and fish tanks, water quality is a huge factor.
