Had a professor who had one of those in his office. Said it was the greatest thing work related he'd ever tried.

Supposedly, if you sit for more than 6 hours (of waking hours I presume) it is enormously unhealthy for you no matter what type of shape your in. Don't have the link to the article because its several years old.

if you want to work, work. if you want to run, then run. doing two things half-assed at the same time is not any better than doing them individually as good as you can.

if something is worth doing, do it right.

It's true. Not even going to the gym before/after work can reverse or prevent the effects. I'm so screwed.

Obviously, these aren't for running - I'd prefer walking to standing, so I can see the value of setting it at a mosey or a lollygag speed (2.5 to 3 mph) - then amping it up for about 10 minutes every hour (3.5) - I bet a person could maintain a reasonable level of fitness walking 8 hours per day - just sitting and typing, the average person burns 80 to 100 calories per hour (everyone will be different) - but that same person will burn 3 to 4 times that if they were walking the whole time, as they would walk 3+ miles every hour.

That would be 24 miles, give or take, in a 8-hour workday. Even if you don't want to lose weight, that would be another whole meal you could eat, with no problems.
