I feel the same way. My mom's only brother served on B-17s in the ETO. When he got back from the war, he refused to talk about it.

It was only after a lot of medical treatment that he was able to begin talking about it, but he died in an automobile accident coming home from one of his unit reunions before anyone could record him.

I still have a couple of other uncles (married to either my Mom or Dad's siblings) who served in WWII who are still around. Hard to get to see them anymore, though.

My paw paw told me a cool story about how he and his buddies docked at Iwo after the Marines took it over. They "acquired" a jeep and rode it all over the island while they were there. When it was time to ship off, they loaded the ride on their ship and had transportation the rest of the war. Ship's captain never asked where it came from.
