Looks like law makers are finally seeing the light
LINK
I support this bill 100% so long as it isnt sold in the supermarket. It should be a personal choice if someone wants to drink raw milk or not.

I will never drink it but I am all for freedom.

Ortego explained the bill follows suit with laws in surrounding states like Arkansas and Texas where it is legal for farmers to sell raw milk to consumers. The bill would not permit the sale of raw milk in retail stores.
Of course not, the "big" conglomerate milk producers own that space. None the less it's a step in the right direction (for more freedom).

Some people drink it in the same manner of people using locally produced honey s a means of antibiotic therapy. There are many cheese makers that utilize it in their products using centuries old methods of doing their work.

Also laughing because you, goatmilker, posted in this thread.

well you dont really want that anyways because that would mean the big conglomerate milk producers would start producing it and if you have ever seen one of their farms you would understand that is a bad idea. THe milk would be coming from cows that shouldnt be providing raw milk.

Is there a major difference between raw and pasteurized milk? is it safe?

Good point.

Store bought milk doesn't even compare to raw milk. We have a couple of Jersey cows that we milk. We bought them because of health issues we were experiencing. Their milk is so much better tasting and better for you. Since it is not pasteurized, it has all the beneficial bacteria that you need in your gut to properly digest food.
This bill is about Freedom. It's great that people will have a choice!

the major difference is that raw milk is beneficial to one's health, and super pasteurized milk is not.

The half of me that loves rights is supremely in support of this.
The half of me that thinks about the law wonders how bad it's going to get for some of these farmers who provide raw milk. Insurance is going to sky rocket, and I bet they get sued for every cold someone gets after consuming raw milk.
So, hooray freedom! They don't know what they're in for.

Hell just non-homogenized milk is so more flavorful it is unreal. Every sip is a step further into the tasty bits of cow juice it provides.

Pasteurized milk has been heated up so that it kills the bacteria - good and bad bacteria.
Here's the deal. Raw milk can be dangerous and you can get Listeria and other sicknesses drinking it. I think that is why it was banned. We have been drinking it since 2007 and have never been sick - Never. But, this is why you want to purchase raw milk from a local farmer that has a few cows that he takes care of. You can see the condition that the cows are in and the cleanliness of his farm. It is a good idea to buy locally and get to know the source of your food anyway.
Local farmers who sell directly to friends and neighbors are not going to give you bad stuff. If a farmer has 1,000 cows and commingles all his milk into eight thousand gallon tanks and sells it to an anonymous consumer... well... that's why the y pasteurize it to kill all the bad stuff that's in it.
Another cool thing about raw milk is it is not homogenized. The cream rises to the top and you can skim it off and make butter or fresh whipped cream. Or you can just shake it up and drink whole milk - Delicious! Homogenized milk puts everything in suspension.

Yes, this is obviously an issue - insurance and regulation that comes along with it. It is a lot of work to milk cows. It takes me 45 minutes to milk two cows in the morning and then again in the evening. There's no way that I could sell a gallon of milk for what the stores are selling it for and break even, but then again, it is a different product and would need to be priced accordingly.
For the small farmer like me, it would be sorta like the Blue Bell ice cream philosophy - "We eat all we can and sell the rest!" It would be primarily sold to a few friends, family, and neighbors. I'd like to say they'd never sue you, but I'd be wrong

Maybe you can be kind enough to write up a form to have these raw milk farmers indemnified by their customers?

I bet they don't.
Producing raw milk is no doubt safer than it was before it was banned. Technology like refrigeration has improved. I'm all for it so long as the consumer can easily distinguish which is raw and which isn't.

No I meant Louisiana which is LA.
