Love me some sugar. In a regular size cup of coffee, I use around 1/4 cup of sugar. Fixed a cup of coffee at the hotel a couple weeks ago and I put 22 of those lttle sugar packets in it. Sugar is good stuff.

my dad used to say that and he was right. Even though when I was little we had the plastic covers over the outlets. You want to know how much sugar/calorie/sodium etc is in a coke look at the back of the freaking can.

Most pointless post ever. Who gives a shite. A candy bar has sugar in it as well. Fried chicken is pretty bad for you. It's simple, calories in / calories out. Drink full coke, then exercise. It's all about choices.

I drink an occasional coke an I'm not fat .. Nor am I a burden to the health care system.

It's not the taxation that is going to curb the intake.
Cut off the government subsidizing Coca-Cola through the food stamp program, would have the most meaningful impact on their bottom line, and that's why this taxation is a pipe dream.

Tell that POS 'journalist' to go drink a freaking Diet Coke if he's so worried about sugar content.
Actually way worse for you. Diet drinks use sugar alternatives. Aspartame is one of the most common and is worse than real sugar or even corn syrup.
Most of our bodies have no problem with sugar or high fructose corn syrup. People just need to realize that moderation is key. Growing up I could drink 4-5 cokes per day. No surprise that I ballooned up rather quickly. These days I try to drink only a few per week. One per day maximum and only if I'm not being lazy that day. If I'm working or doing something active I can use the calories and sugar without problem.

Sounds more like we need to tax being fat, in that case.
Charge overweight people more for everything that burdens the tax payer. If a doctor says you have no thyroid condition and you are just obese for no reason other than you being a nasty fatass, you should either be kicked off "Obamacare" or be charged A LOT more for it.
Why do I, an in-shape 26 year old male, have to pay the same amount as some fat frick 26 year old male eating doritos and mcdonalds for every meal?
They don't have a "pre-existing condition" but they are knowingly being unhealthy on someone else's tax tab.

We need to cut off A LOT from the food stamp program. They shouldn't be allowed to purchase soft drinks with it or junk food. PERIOD.

For example, if my company gives me a huge discount on insurance prices for having great blood pressure, cholesterol, labs, and having no tobacco/nicotine in my system.
Obamacare should offer the same discounts.

This. I don't want to get into special food taxes, but I don't want to pay for every dumbasses diabetic medical problems either. I think this is a good first step, by limiting what the food stamp crowd can purchase

Should there be a "sin" tax on coke? I am mixed. On the hand it is an impediment on people right to consumer choice. On the other hand, fat is a burden on the health system.
Charge higher rates for the day asses to get insurance, not the people that want to drink a coke!

Don't lie son. You do it for the pussy. Your health has nothing to do with it.
