Something like that is my fallback plan.

I was thinking of taking some joist framing supports, the kind that hold a 2x6, screwing those to the metal ribs of the trailer and then then dropping a 2x6 shelf unit into them.

I would just say keep in mind the weight that'll add if you're doing the whole trailer. Those Rubbermaid shelves are super light.

Look up a system called E-track,they use it in big trailers. the bracket in the link is for a 2x4 shelf,check it out.
