Noble had an indecent where a couple guys found the pontoon hand a sleep and put a noose around his neck and took pictures. They got fired and he got paid. There are some very stupid people in the world. Noble don't mess around, they don't give warnings over racial or sexual harassment. If you do something stupid like this they fire you on the spot.
That is most likely the one I'm talking about. It was with Noble. The pontoon hand was my roommate on the rig when it happened. But he was white.

The incident with the guy getting duct taped to the chair was on the same Noble rig. They took pictures and he sued for sexual harassment and maybe a few other things. It was harmless but he saw an opportunity and sued them. He had evidence and got paid.

Be safe, bring ear plugs to sleep, books, and be the hardest worker there. No matter what u do you will be messed with but it's all in fun. Bring extra cigs and dip if that's ur thing, I'm mean bring what u normally do in a week and then some.

I've always wondered this.. If one works 7/7, does he get OT after 40 hours during that 7 on? Is it 12 hr shifts??
Posted on 2/28/14 at 6:40 pm to Uncle JackD

Yeah. 12 hour shifts. Everything after your first 40 hours is overtime. Some employees are salary.

And overtime is time and a half. That is how it is for every drilling company I have worked for. I'm not sure about service hands and such.

I'm not sure of the guys name but he was black. They called him 9 ball and had a brother they called 8 ball. 9 ball was on a rig here in Brazil still with Noble.

1st hitch offshore
Posted on 2/28/14 at 7:03 pm to RaginCajun87
It's been forever but I had a blast when I worked offshore during my college years. Learned how to make home made pocket pussy out of a towel, rubber glove and lotion my first hitch. LOL
Bring fishing pole and tackle. Money for poker every night. Your normal everyday toiletries.
Guys offshore also like to mess with each, so don't be thin skinned. Its all in good fun and helps past the time.

We usually bring bean bag chairs. So expect a long, bumpy ride. Hopefully yall catch the riptide and it would make that ride worth it 10xs over

The incidents I'm talking about was on the rig Max Smith. Around 2005. Can't remember exact year. The guy in the noose incident was white and from Mississippi. At least 80% was from south Mississippi.
Only black man I remember was an old motor hand. He was at least 60 years old. One guy would come in the galley everyday and pull out his dick in front of the old man. The last time he did it, the old man grabbed him by the dick and lead him around to each table and made him tell everyone he wouldn't do it again. The guy was in some serious pain but it was funny as hell.

I've been offshore for 16 years. It has provided me with a great career. I started out on the deep water drilling rigs. Work hard and safely. There is a lot of money to be made offshore.
Posted on 2/28/14 at 8:21 pm to MudEngineer318
How much is a lot of money? Like what can the OP, on his first hitch, just starting out make? Just curious.
Posted on 2/28/14 at 8:31 pm to Martini
I'm not sure what the OP will makes but you can make a great living if you work your way up enough. Offshore generally pays more than land. My buddy started as a roughneck. Worked his way up to toolpusher. Hired on as a consultant for another company and just got another promotion. Consultanting he made $1750 a day but with all the other perks it probably bumped it up to around $1900 a day. Now he is something like the field foreman or something like that. The company men report to him. He won't tell me exactly how much he makes but I know it's twice as much as he did make. Somewhere above $300,000 a year.
This is on land here in the States so I'm sure he would make more offshore or overseas.

And that is working 14/14. Not bad for only 6 months of work.

What are you doing, roustabout, floor hand, galley...what are you doing?

Expect good food
What rig were you on? Offshore food is like Golden Corral, but worse. Especially if the Aramark work release program is on the rig...
Speaking of, expect fried chicken on Sunday and fried seafood on Friday.
