Same thing happened in a game in 2011 between Arkansas and Kentucky. They originally had the wrong final score and had to go back and change everything. In that instance they were in the bottom of the inning with the home team UK trailing and batting with 2 outs. Arkansas had scored 1 in the top half of that inning and it all counted despite the last out of the 6th not being made.

So obviously that is a legit rule then and they always follow score it that way. That's bizarre.
All that did in that situation was piss the pitcher off because his ERA went up
