I know the OP specified two guns but I'm surprised no one has tried to talk him outta that circa 80-90s gun and into a sexy polymer... Higher cap, less weight, cheaper.... Hmmmm....

I suggested a lightweight, single stack polymer for carry. But he specified that this gun has to be "dual purpose" which would make me lean to a compact double stack.

But then again, my home defense handgun is also a plastic fantastic, although it backs up my 870 and wouldn't be grabbed first.

I huffed around a 229 for two years in the late 90s... Never again. Since it's been g19/p30/hk45c... The lighter weight and lower bore axis won out.

One of the biggest reasons I never suggest a metal-framed gun for carry. Some will do it but most won't. ("Some" means KR )

I like to know I can still kill someone with the weight of the gun if dropped on their head

Or blow holes clean through 2x8s with hollow point ammo...

I get it though, "cool" usually wins out over practicality when it comes to the first HG purchase.

I can definitely vouch for that.

Yea, first handgun actually. I've always been enamored by the looks and the thing is damn reliable. But yea it doesn't ever get carried.

I feel good about my future multi-purpose. After getting my hands on the full-size, compact, & shield, I've decided the 40c is the gun for me. Can't wait to hit the range w/ OP and have it on my hip day to day.

Saving up! (College budget)

The mil have high safety standards for pistols, hence no glock will be adopted.

Glock 22 is used by Delta Force

Glock 19 is used by DEVGRU and USSOCOM

As for polymers frames being cheap, the military planed to rearm with the HK45, but did not due to cost.

LINK

"The HK45 was designed to meet requirements set forth in the U.S. Military Joint Combat Pistol program which had the purpose of arming the U.S. Military with a .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol instead of the 9mm M9 pistol. The Joint Combat Pistol program was suspended indefinitely in 2006."

Sweet, what holster do you use for it? I just placed an order on an MTAC. Going into the courthouse tomorrow morning to apply for my carry license.

I see. I'll probably be picking up either a Shield or LC9 in a couple months when my paperwork processes.

I think someone mentioned on here earlier that you carry a full-sized 1911. I'm not sure that's something I'd want to do every day, I think I'd need to hit the gym first.
