Last three Summer Olympiads were completely or partially in August, although Sydney stretched into October. Rio and Tokyo will be in the same time range as the last three Summer Olympiads.

Anchorage actually placed 3rd for the 1994 Winter Olympics (the Kerrigan-Harding Games) and is bidding for 2026. I can see either them or Boston being real contenders for those games. You don't need the same infrastructure for a Winter Olympiad as you do for a Summer, so Anchorage has a shot.

I've heard the 3 main winter targets are Tahoe/Reno, Denver, and Bozeman.

I wonder how many ski World Cup events are done in Alaska.

Well Sydney and Rio are Spring Olympics. So there's no reason why New Orleans couldn't host in April.
