Plenty of fish moving in the coves/bays. Unfortunately I'm leaving in the morning. My Uncle is a fishing legend on that lake. He's been there 22 years. Bass are hitting on shad rap crank baits. White perch are deeper. Jigs blue/black or blue/white on 4 lbs line. You can troll while bass fishing. Buy some crappie nibblets white color and put on the hook with the jig. Or setup yo yo's at night off a dock with shiners. Caught big ones this way.

Ok... That's all I can handle. Left last night. So the stats for the week at Toledo Bend
Bass = cleaned 117 / 50+ over 2 lbs. The largest was 5.6 lbs. Most were males. Still probably a week or so of warm weather away for the big fat gals to venture in to spawn.
White Perch/Crappie/Sac Au Lait = cleaned 66/ 1/2 were literally close to 2 lbs. Largest was 2.3 lbs
This was an incredible week of fishing. Hadn't had this much fun since the Pre Hurricane Andrew days in the Spillway/Belle River days. So who ever is heading to Toledo Bend in the next three weeks should see similar results. At least on the southern Louisiana side. Biggest advice... Watch the locals and see what they are doing. (They obviously know the lake and when to fish it) The second thing try and be the first and last in the coves. Most of our "Big" fish were caught just as the sun was setting across the lake looking towards Indian Mound and early where you can barely see. Third if all else fails pull out the wacky worm. (Watermelon) As much fun and as many fish us two guys caught, I still think I was a week or two early. My Uncle is staying and I have to head back to the real world but I have plenty of fillets to fry. End of Rant Gentlemen. It's been fun.

Thumbs are very raw. My Uncle bought this camp 22 years ago and is considered a native now. As soon as he kills 3 or 4 deer, he leaves Prairieville and heads to the fishing camp(fishing palace, I guess resort would be more appropriate). He honestly could fish professionally. His grandson at 6 years old caught an 8.1 pounder this same week a couple of years ago. That was a sight. Need to drag out that pic and post it. It's ridiculous and funny to see how big the fish is with a six year old struggling to hold it. It's in the blood. I can catch fish but this guy finds them, knows what bait and color just by looking at the surroundings. (water color, temperature, cloudy vs sunny, temperature of the water, and what's underneath the boat) I didn't want to leave bc I want to catch those big spawning females and that's just starting. I don't know if my Uncle will be back home anytime soon. His only rule, If we head up there bring him food so he can stay longer. Lol. Can't blame him.

Started at La. Islands. Nothing for a while. As soon as I got to the pinch point, I got 4 bites on the SR-5.
Floated over a hump at Site 15. One on swim bait dragging behind boat.
Drove to Yokum. I counted 32 boats at one point in there. Most in open water. I fished around them. Probably got 15 bites on the Rapala. Every boat shoot had multiple fish. No perch though.
Drove back. Right at dark caught first perch of day from dock.
not driving back to Yokum in the am. Going to try nothin but the perches.
Many thanks to lsubkd.

The weekend warriors have shown up. It's amazing how on Tuesday you'll have the whole Lake to yourself. I try to go on Sunday and fish during the week.

Last bass I caught and it was my biggest. LINK
My Uncle is heading back tomorrow. I'll keep you posted on what the natives are catching and what they are throwing. If you have shiners, the yo yos worked unbelievable. One night I had to quit bc I ran out of shiners. Sometimes you get those nasty pollywog catfish/mudcats on there though. Hate those things.
