I know, it's funny. He hit the button by mistake.

Is "Here you go" an appropriate thing to say when handing the customer food?
Or how about "Uhhhn" ?

if the customer cusses you out you can cuss back

from a laid back prospective - its ok
from a business aspect - no
put it like this. If their district manager walked up to them while they say "here you go", what would you think he/she would say to the worker?

That would depend on the restaurant.

Can we get some context here?

So, just to clarify, it may qualify as appropriate customer service at some restaurants and not others?

Don't assume you know what I'm complaining about and interrupt me before I finish telling you. Comcast is the worst at this.

My husband always gets irked by employees who barely even respond when he says "Thank you". He feels like they should be thanking him for his business, and if they just mumble "you're welcome", he doesn't feel very welcome at all.

Does your husband ever get the proverbial Grunt Dorothy, or the look away with hand extended toward him move? That's the bestest. I'm pretty sure those are the ones waiting for their real job.

Most definitely. You can't expect the same level of service from someone working at a fast food restaurant or a similar place where you don't tip and an actual waiter or waitress at a real restaurant.
I think the key factor is, are you tipping?

The customer is always right, but right or wrong your goal is to help them whatever that takes.
Always be polite, even if they aren't.
Never raise your voice to a customer.
Always offer to find a solution for them.
If you can't please them in any way, offer their money back if that is possible and wish them well.
Use the mute button on your phone to yell at the wall, not the customer.
