Why?

Targeting and Initiating Contact to Head or Neck Area of a
Defenseless Player
ARTICLE 4. No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck
area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or
shoulder. When in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-
I-VI)

If that hit on Drew Brees was illegal, that's illegal.

So we're just taking rules from the NFL and applying them to college football?

The new targeting rules apply to that hit as I quoted from Article 4 of the NCAA rule book.

His hand is on the shoulder, not head or neck.

QB's get stripped while they are about to throw the ball all the time.

I was just messing with you people in this thread, but that's stupid. And I hate the rule but he hit his helmet and neck.

That's great and all, but they are still labeled defenseless and cannot be hit in the neck, head or facemask. All of which happened on that play.

I don't know what hitting the ball out of a quaterback's hand while he's getting set to release has to do with it.

Wasn't that hit from a few years ago?

Or are we retroactively applying new rules to old games?

It's a still shot. It's not like he just layed his hand, wrist, forearm and elbow gently on his shoulder.

That was a great, brutal, and now illegal hit.

You SEC fans are a little lacking on the reading comprehension department. And you (personally) can't think objectively.

I was referencing it in a rule change thread, hence I was looking at the effect of rule changes.

You (and many SEC fans on this site) are pretty whiny when you don't get jerked off by fans of teams in other conferences when you claim ultimate superiority of the entire college football realm. It's pretty sad, pathetic and whiny.

Just like all these SEC players that get hit and can't come out the next week and play.

ha

anyway, why does Saban have such an issue with uptempo offenses? I mean Chavis' defenses has beaten a lot of em, and I have it on expert Rant authority that the game has passed him by.
