I've read Atkinson's "Liberation Trilogy. My favorite was "An Army At Dawn". Possibly because it contained information that was new to me, or perhaps it was just written better.
"Day of Battle" was very good, as well. It detailed some of the lesser known battles of the drive up the Italian peninsula.
I don't know if my expectations were set too high after the first two books, but I didn't think "The Guns at Last Light" was as good as the other two in the trilogy.

Might also check out Atkinson's "Crusade" about the Gulf War. Very good I thought.
