The rules are either the same or they aren't. And you just proved they aren't.
Also, I can't tell you how many times I've seen women promise to come back to work after maternity leave (rack up all kinds of healthcare bills on the group) and then never return to work.

And? They are entitled to whatever their benefits package entitled them to.
