Late to the thread.
But what's to stop a booster from purchasing a shite ton of apparel from the company?
I hate to even have the NCAA so much as peek in LF/LSU's direction.

I could see this ending bad. Just because for some reason LSU has very bad history with their best players. R. Perriloux. C. Collins, I hope and pray this doesn't lead to him being under investigation before he even gets on campus.

Very few things could stop LF from becoming a possible Heisman winner at LSU and instant NFL millionaire in 3 years.
This type crap is one of them, if legit....

If Bama can:
-Have guys signing merchandise at Men's Warehouse in exchange for suits.
-Have a player receive furniture, cash, free trips, and other stuff from a runner for an agent with proof that includes western union receipts, and all kinds of other proof.
And Auburn can:
-Pay a player through his fathers church.
-pay a walmart oil change specialist to haul players to Auburn every weekend.
If Texas ATM can:
-Have a player caught signing hundreds and hundreds of items for money.
Then why should LF7 worry about his parents selling t shirts and hats with a hand sign on it. What is the NCAA going to do? Say no athlete can wear buga nation shirts while allowing a polo shirt in an interview? Or a nike shirt with LSU on it? Or a Jos a Bank suit during interviews after a game? They can't and won't be able to do anything about it.

Logic doesn't matter when it comes to the NCAA. The fact is that his parents are making money off of something Leonard created.
I posted several pages back that LF did not necessarily create this. For all anyone knows, his parents nicknamed him buga as a kid... and maybe they liked to make pretend binoculars with their hands and peek at Leonard through them. It became a family joke from an early age and he did the same hand binocular symbol back at them. If the parents started it, it's their joke. If LF makes a hand gesture back at them, he's simply participating in the family joke his parents created. I'm not saying this is how it happened, but maybe it did. Just because you first learned of this from him does not mean he created it. You're entitled to your opinion, but your opinion is not established fact, so don't post it on here like it is.
Beyond that point, if Leonard started flashing the somewhat hand binocular symbol during games as a way of acknowledging his parents, then he shouldn't have to unlearn the behavior. That would be like telling thousands of players that they can't say "All glory to God" on TV anymore because some of them have dads who are ministers and saying so might benefit the business of their fathers. And what if a player has parents that sell t-shirts has a t-shirt that says "I love you, mom". Is that player, upon going to college, going to be banned from saying "I love you, mom" on TV now? That would be absurd.
Buga is neutral enough of a word and many kids sport variations of that nickname; nation is a relatively neutral word. Associating a hand symbol with a couple of somewhat neutral words (Buga and nation) has a unique quality which his parents should have every right to express in the form of merchandise if it's their idea. There is nothing about any of the elements in Buga nation that overtly scream "Leonard Fournette" or "LSU" in such a way his parents shouldn't have an opportunity to market the idea for fear that their son might be punished.
Any attempt to block the parents from selling Buga Nation merchandise strikes me as wrong and opens the door to ridiculous ideas, like... maybe if a kid's parents own an All State insurance branch, then that kid shouldn't be able to play in the Sugar Bowl because that player's participation promotes All State, which benefits the parents. If that's the case, any parent who works at any company that spends money on marketing faces the same dilemma. Should such companies be allowed to sponsor bowls or even spend money on commercials during games when their employees are linked to athletes whose presence draws interest that benefits the company... that then benefits the parents... which trickles down to the quality of life of the student athlete?
Bottom line... in my opinion... parents should not be barred from pursuing entrepreneurial pursuits based on their experiences and ideas. As long as they don't plaster Leonard's name or picture on anything, and as long as he doesn't actively participate in their business, there shouldn't be an issue. And if Leonard wants to make a hand sign that looks a little bit like "ok" when he scores touchdowns in order to express his appreciation of his parents, he should have that right.

NCAA is going to be watching this closely as will other big time recruits. But I'm sure our compliance dept. is also keeping close tabs on it. Just seems very risky

IF LF's parents are selling this merchandise,
I would imagine they did their due diligence
to make sure they were not violating any NCAA
rules.
