Can't you take a CATS bus to a 'bar' scene downtown? We are already paying for the CATS bus via a tax. If it's a student deal, then let's charge each student a $250 fee to pay for this cool idea.

I'm not advocating a streetcar. And no, we do not have what other colleges have if you've ever been to some of them you'd know that.

I'm just saying having such a development ever materialize would be nice.

How will BR fund itself off of DUI fees if they make a reliable safe public transportation system?

My guess if they built this it won't be all that reliable, so plenty of DUIs to keep those cops earning.

I hope they time the traffic lights around the trains.

All this looks awesome, I hope it happens. As for the trains, Houston does a good job of their "light rail" that connects Reliant Stadium, Medical District and Downtown. The light rail lane is also the turning lane in some spots. It works pretty easy.

Article in The Advocate says 1,800 residential units. That's awesome. Awesome to think where BR & Nola could be in 10 or 20 years.

This could be a huge boost for D-Town if planned accordingly. I would like to see all that open area between Garfield and Oklahoma on the west side of Nicholson turn into high end row houses.

This would give BR a new look and would be a positive step in gentrifying that area.

This.

Develop this whole area. Some people do have a vision to use more and more mass transit and this would be a nice step in that direction.

I hope it happens. I hope they have it run from Alex Box (or even better, Nicholson @ Brightside) all the way to the Capitol building with stops at Tiger Stadium, near the 3rd Street bars, North Boulevard, and The Pastime.

I'd love to see it link up with another line in the future that runs from downtown to BRCC, Independence Park, and Cortana Mall.

Phase 3 (distant future) would extend the north/south line to the airport, Southern University, and the zoo. There would also be a southeast line that runs down to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, The Mall of Louisiana, Seigan Village, and Blue Bayou.

that would be faptastic, especially if it has some kind of extension down brightside to river road so my rental properties are included. BR has needed one a centralized bar district and a means of trasnsporting the drunk students home so they don't have to drive.

What is the likelihood of it being completed in 10 years?

A lot of LSU students don't go downtown because it's a bitch to park down there at night and it means they need to have a dd. A streetcar would solve that. It would also be great for LSU football games as people could park their cars at the Casinos, under the new bridge, or in the parking garages downtown and ride the trolley to campus.

yeah unless it was the fall and we had pledge dd's going downtown was always a pain the arse. As far as a good bar district in BR, I never understood why some developers haven't bought and demolished the shitty apartment complexs on alan dark and expanded tigerland.
