Thinking about it, if I could only have one handgun it would be the glock 29 (even though I don't currently own one)
It's just a jack of all trades
Massive Firepower? Check
Small and easily concealed? Check
High cap mag? Check
Reliable? check
After market products readily available? check
Only downside is that ammo is 37-40 cents per round on the low end, ehich isn't terrible but isn't great either.
If I was looking for a gun that fit all the above criteria plus cheap ammo (with a dropoff in power) I'd go with a compact glock in .40 caliber

Yeah, I guess I went a little extreme with the revolver because "for eternity" scared me a little bit. 
If a big daddy revolver can't get you out of trouble, then you were never in the fight to begin with.
