Writing a journal to your child

Apparently my wife started this and I didn't know until today when she asked me if I wanted to write in it. I was hesitant, but ended up writing 3 pages for my first entry.
It's a little awkward, since I have no idea what our relationship will be like when he gets it (many years, maybe even HS graduation), but I kind of got into it.
Has anyone done this or is in the process? What are some things you put in it? So far, I just told him about me at this point in time, saying I can feel him kicking and things I've that. I figured it would be cool for him to see what we were thinking during the process, and also maybe throw in some advice that we may forget to tell him, or that would be worth reading again at an older age.
Anyway, the first entry was a pretty cool experience, in regards to what it made me think about and imagining him reading it later in life. It might turn out to be really special if God forbid something should happen to me or my wife.

That's cool. Kinda wish I could write more than one paragraph

That is actually the first time I've heard of this. However, what a great idea. I totally would do this if I have a kid.

My wife has a blog dedicated to him. It's letters to him about big events or tough days or good days. She started it when she found out she was pregnant. She enjoys it and, I think, is mostly for her. But if he reads it one day, it could be something special to him too.

I suspect some entries might only be a paragraph, or a list, or even just pictures taped in it. My imagination really got going when she gave it to me.
I suggested we not read each other's entries for now, just to see where we repeat things or even contradict each other. Might change, though.

Today me and your dad rode our beach cruisers and went hiking with the dogs. I also got into a fight with an old gross lady on a message board. Oh, let me about the vacation we are planning.....six pages of nonsense nobody will ever read

All the time, my father died before I was born and wish he would have done it. So, just in case something happens to me I write to her as if something does so she can read it. I also have birthday cards and other big event cards written just in case. Maybe silly but it's my way.

I wouldn't write crap like that in it.
Like the OP said, something like that could be priceless to a child one day. Esp if they lose their parents when they are young.

My class I'm 8th grade did a retreat thing and part of it was our parents had to write us a letter. It was pretty awesome reading what my parents had to say, since I think a lot of us don't say everything we want to all the time. It was emotional, in a good way, and I was reminded of how cool it was today and got excited about my son having that on a larger scale.

My wife got me a nice leather journal to write to my kids... I used it for a workout log. She's just happy I used it.

That's really cool. And I think it's important, no matter what type of relationship you have with your son.

Me too! I saw that right before our first pregnancy and thought I would like to do that, but it sort fell off the radar. I told the wife about the idea back then, so I like to think that's why she started it, but I doubt it.
