quote:
If your child is in sixth grade and interested in science, good news— the school has the perfect teacher for her! “Rita Roark regularly asks her sixth-grade students for professions of Christian faith in science class and teaches the Bible as scientific fact, claiming that the Big Bang never happened and that evolution is a “stupid” theory that “stupid people made up because they don’t want to believe in God.” Instead of the theory of evolution, your child instead will learn about Roark’s “beliefs about ‘Young Earth’ creationism, informing students that the Big Bang never happened and that the Universe was created by God approximately 6,000 years ago. She also teaches here students that evolution does not exist and has stated that, ‘if evolution were real, it would still be happening. Apes would be turning into humans today.” We are indeed so blessed to have this woman of science teaching our children.

I read another article on this earlier.

I can see this thread going 2 ways:
1) It will die after about 3 pages, with a few quips against Louisiana Schools, teachers, etc.
2) It will blow up into a religion thread.
Let's see how this plays out.

How can she teach science and not believe in evolution?

Well she's not teaching science. She's holding a Sunday school class

I was wondering how long it would take for this thread to appear. If the things in that article are true then the school is screwed.

I've been following this on reddit the past couple days. It doesn't surprise me at all. I wish the story was more focused on the child abuse aspect. She said some pretty fricked up things to him for something he wouldn't know any better about.

I taught one year in a catholic school and evolution was part of the curriculum. She has zero understanding of evolution, probably read a few paragraphs of Darwin and called it a day. She also probably doesn't know the official stance of whatever religion she practices has on evolution

She believes in young earth creationism and that's exactly what they teach

The Louisiana ACLU has scans of all the documents on their website.
Hard evidence of violaions of state educational laws and the La doe does nothing.
Someone made a telephone complaint about EBRPSS and they launched a full investigation.

I could not find a job in Louisiana when I graduated but yet this crazy woman could. Another example of why I will never teach in Louisiana

Judgement in favor of the plaintiffs! It is freaking 2014.
It is reprehensible if the Lane children face maltreatment due to this indispensable and principled court complaint.
