The press is an inherent risk. You either get a turnover OR:
You give up an easy bucket, or an open 3
The possession settles into a halfcourt, where the pressing team will struggle to play D for the full shot clock

All coaches simply mix it in, usually whe you trail. It runs an inherent risk, but can be worth it at times.
