Um, no. Just no. Recovered with no effort at all.

On the other hand, wiping the drive with something like this free utility will get the job done.

Not really. Google 'recover formatted drive' gives you all you ever needed to know. No computer forensics or advanced knowledge required at all.

How does one recover a reformatted hard drive?

That still wouldn't help 99% of the population. They'd need to know how to plug in the drive, for starters.
