IF you take the extra point out, that changes nothing of what you said. not even one bit. The EP is already viewed as automatic, so how could it change?

If the idea is to give an automatic 7 for a touchdown with the option of going for an 8th point on a play where if you don't score, you lose a point and go back to 6, you're correct in what you say here.

But look at it this way. NBA players are better shooters than college players are. Check out the 3-point lines. Nothing wrong with doing something similar with NFL kickers. They kick better--no problem making it more of a challenge.

But very few are proposing to "just make it automatic." most of these suggestions involve some sort of play, an option for easier 2 point conversions, etc.

You are correct if you either just make it an automatic 7 OR just increase the length, then yeah nothing would change and that's good. But that isn't the proposition.
