Please elaborate.

That doesn't equate to "we never had free speech". Quit being a drama queen.

From a govt. stance, Americans have never had "free speech". The fact is that govt. can't grant me rights anyway. I was born with the ability to speak and govt. didn't give me that ability, it can only curtail it. Many of the locals, like Ace Midnight, like to say that it is govt., and specifically the military , that grant us rights. In addition, there are many things that you are not allowed to say. Some of those things are legitimate (threats of violence, etc). Some of those things are limits on your speech (the example listed in the posted thread).

I don't care what ace midnight thinks or to read through a thread looking for your examples...just tell me in what ways we have never had free speech. Should be easy.

In an absolutist sense, he's right.
Go scream "Fire!" in a crowded theater and see if government agents don't arrest you for your speech.

Of course...and we can all agree that doing so clearly puts lives in danger...it's a violent act more than speech. Not an example of "never having free speech".

So the only distinction for you is if the violence is publicly prohibited or privately prohibited. You've got to do better than fire in a crowded theatre to go all drama queen and assert we never have had free speech.

Not at all but I'll stop posting if you're going to make my argument for me, despite not understanding it. I'm remembering why I quit responding to your lazy arse. God speed.

You're a joke. A hit and run snarker with little to add. Your base philosophy comes across as teenage angst with a hyper idealization of fairy tale anarchy.
So fire in a crowded theatre is what you're going to base your assertion of we've never had free speech on...posting it on the internet, on a political forum where people say all sorts of outrageous shite...yes, you're a clown.
And you accuse me of being lazy? You won't even make an argument. All you can do is link to a thread or a book excerpt on amazon. In fact I can't recall the last time you did anything other than drop in and make anything more than a jackass statement like "we've never had free speech".

quote:No. How did you come to that conclusion? There are multiple examples of how we don't have freedom of speech now and there are historical examples that show we didn't have it in the past. The link I posted was a recent thread about how we don't have freedom of speech now. Would you like to discuss some of the historical occurrences?

quote:Absolutely. The fact you didn't even bother to read the thread, the numerous videos, the articles, and the comments is just more damning evidence that you're either too lazy to understand what you're arguing against or just here to reaffirm what you already believe; which is sad because there are many posters here who actually have important things to say/present. Regardless, the decision to when-in-doubt use ad hom and to claim that I'm stating a case that I've never supported is just not worth dealing with. I'm sorry that I can't make a response to a historical, political, or economic debate into a 5-word tagline that flashes across the bottom of your screen during a Saints game. You're going to have to dig and I've done more than enough in presenting information and will continue to do so. Even the morons and trolls here do more to understand an argument than you do... and I'm not saying you're stupid. I just think you're a count.
And you accuse me of being lazy?
Here's some more on the subject: LINK.
