Why doesn't this gay advocacy group in Uganda instead sue the Ugandan gov. or seek changes in their policies instead of targeting an American pastor?
Because of who is pushing it here in the US!

I don't see how this could fly? Of course I don't understand how a healthcare system not wanted by the vast majority of the citizens could be passed and labeled a tax either?

Let's get to the bottom of it. Explain to us what he is being sued for.

They aren't exactly high on the freedom index. It would be like suing US government for violating its own laws pre-1960. They are just trying to take what they can get by going after the US pastor. Also, The Center for Constitutional Rights is pushing it on their behalf.
SMUG = Sexual Minorities of Uganda
I think they already advocate changes in policy.
I still think the charges won't stick when everything is said and done.

Why on earth would I waste time copying and pasting it here? If my memory serves me, the recitation of alleged facts starts around page 9. Go read it.
ETA: starts on page six.

It wont fly Rev. this idiot judge will be treated as a fool by the higher courts, but he and this Soros sponsered group is trying to set a precadent just like they did in the 70s with all their plans that seemed to go nowhere, but they were slowly brainwashing our kids and the culture through our schools and with the help of the news media & hollywood elites.
They figure if they get a foot in the door in one U.S. court they can then use the world court and have standing.

But it has opened the door. We will see a lot more of this.
Already churches are being forced to allow their property to be used in gay marriages by courts.

Lively is best known for his role, reported first here on BTB, as featured speaker at an anti-gay conference held in Kampala in March 2009. During that conference, Lively touted his book, The Pink Swastika, in which he claimed that gays were responsible for founding the Nazi Party and running the gas chambers in the Holocaust.
This just confuses me. This would be like saying that the KKK was founded by black people.
Persecution of homosexuals in Nazi Germany and the Holocaust

Judge Ponsor holds that Pastor Lively, who visited Uganda twice in 2002 and then not again until 2009, could be regarded as a "co-conspirator" with a member of the Ugandan legislature who introduced proposed legislation against homosexual behavior (the bill never passed).
To be fair, you don't have to physically be somewhere to do what they are accusing him of. Still a BS lawsuit IMO (from what I've read), but the number of visits is sorta irrelevant.

Have you read, at minimum, the first 15 pages of the opinion? If you haven't, you should do so before getting too aggressive about what, exactly, he's being accused of doing.
Josh, could you please do a summary or link to it. I'm just curious because it sounds like there is more to this than simply "This guy hates gays therefore let's sue him". But I could be wrong. I just don't see a judge allowing a suit through based on apparent actions in a foreign country in which all he would have done is basically assist in making anti-gay laws which the country was already known for. While the laws may be BS I just don't see how the case could have made it to court, especially in the US (would make a bit more sense in Uganda, but would still be a weird lawsuit to have)

I have already read it.
I'm asking you to site what you think he did that merits a law suit here in the US. I also listed things that the judge made huge over reaches on. Care to comment?

You've read it, yet assert he's being accused of merely preaching? Are we reading the same document?

It flies in the face of established international law.

My topic says his anit gay stance.
So again, what did he do that was illegal or harmful in your eyes. Just curious.

Here you go
Now go on and explain how in this case, this instance it's ok. Find that loophole by which you can justify this.

Libel (unfounded, published accusations made against homosexuals) and being instrumental in the drafting of legislation which criminalized everything from the advocating for gay rights, to committing homosexual acts, to not turning in homosexuals you know.
Just for starters.

And how is any of that against any laws here in the US?
How is he being linked to those?

It isn't ok. However, the issue is the Civil Rights Act. If religious people were honest, they would admit that they didn't care about the loss of property rights of others as long as they were treated as special exceptions. Now that you're being treated like everyone else, you all of a sudden have a problem.

I'll spare us a lengthy discussion concerning the latter and ask simply about the former: since when is libel not illegal in the United States?
