It is stupid to grade the 2013 defense based on just UGA, or A&M, or Bama.
The defense was obviously no better than a C the first third of the season as Chavis tried to find the right mix and get the best guys on the field and communicating properly.
The defense was obviously trending up by the time Bama rolled around, and Bama wore us down thanks to our offense not responding as the game wore on.
By the time the A&M game came around, so had our defense. Back to A status or close to it.
The only constant throughout the season, imo, on defense was our lack of dominant (and sometimes even adequate) play at DT, and MLB.
Defense 2013: C -> B -> (A-)
The 2011 offense was clearly an A through the first half of the season. Maybe the chemistry started to lack when youknowwho showed up again, as I feared it would. Or maybe, Stud didn't self-scout very well and our later opponents could read what we were going to do pretty easily. I think a combination.
It was clear late in the 2011 season that our offense needed TM7 to do something to get them going.
Offense 2011: A -> C -> F (I'll let you guess which game gets the F)

quote:name the programs who have 10+ wins over the last 4 seasons. the list is quite short. in fact, if you were to figure out the percentage these teams constitute all of cfb, you could definitely call that list "elite."
Nope.

The Program is elite, but the team is not.

team is elite. coaching is not
this is the same old stupid argument that's been going on for years. if the sec is the best conference and lsu is at the top every year, then it's not luck or in spite of bad coaching. if you disagree, then the sec isn't the toughest conference. you can't have it both ways.

People talk about the 2011 O carried by D, but 2003 O was supported even more by it's D.
No other O in recent memory had opp Ds quitting in the 4th like 2011

The team is at an elite level right now.
You could make the argument that the program or school is considered 'elite' (top 10) but even that would be a stretch.
Recruiting +
W/L record +
Championships =
Elite status.
We are pretty good on the first, good on the 2nd one, and severely deficient on the 3rd.

This is just spectacularly stupid. If our deficiency is due to championships then who are the other 10 "elite" teams of the last 10 years according to you?

Choctaw...LSU has not won the SEC since 2011, that's simply unacceptable...

If Bama doesn't win it next year, they are also going to be deficient in championships

We're not far away right now. A couple lucky breaks and some sustained motivation/momentum can propel us in.

2011 Offense gets a C...would hate to know what a D or F offense looks like
Posted on 1/17/14 at 7:20 pm to FightingTigers7
We are an elite team, although the defense did not play like one at times last year. It is hard to deal with the high number of underclassman leaving the program. No one is dealing with that issue as much as LSU. It is not even close. Next year looks good at every position, however WR, QB, and linebacker are all young and could go either way. Should be exciting.

You sure? Something is holding LSU back.
