Texas Tech - Had a comfortable lead but let them score the last 7 of the game to make it more interesting than necessary

ULM - Even though they won by 7, LSU allowed them to close the game on a nice run.

South Carolina - Came very close to blowing that game in the final minutes

Ole Miss- Total meltdown last night that finally caught up with them and resulted in a loss.

Combination of some poor decisions by coach and poor free throw shooting? From 2 minutes left in regulation to the end of OT we get outscored 24-5 and CJJ doesn't call a single timeout during that stretch if I'm not mistaken. At least I don't remember one being called so correct me if I'm wrong. How does he just sit there and watch that unfold? I don't understand.

And that zone offense they run.

if hickey and stringer aren't draining 3's they have no shot. Too many forwards out on the floor and none can shoot. Offense needs to get more active because they come down and pass it back and forth behind 3 pt line then rush a drive or 3 ball. Its weak

They don't have a guy that can create his own shot. When your 2 best guards are under 6ft, you will struggle to get shots, especially to close out games trying to run clock.

I think we called one, with about 2:30 left in overtime, after we were down 7 points.

One big problem for closing is that we don't have a "go to guy". If we feed it to JOB, they will trap and he may get fouled and sent to the free throw line (57% shooter), or worse he may turn it over. Hickey can handle the ball, but what good is his drive when every defender knows he is too small to finish at the rim and has to rely on a pull up jumper.

Even with that, it's frustrating to watch us not run an offense and just watch the shot clock roll down until we force up a bad shot.

Yeah, just went back and looked at the play by play. He did finally call one after Ole Miss had gone on a 14-2 run. And he called another with about a minute remaining. Sorry for the misinformation. Still terrible.

This x1000

teams are playing zone and daring us to shoot the 3. To make things worse, JOB is struggling this season

last 4 possession of regulation

hold the ball with hickey until 7 seconds left and take a bad shot
stringer gets fouled on ole miss's end and walk down and shoots free throws (not really a possession per se)
hold the ball with hickey until 7 seconds left and take a bad shot
hold the ball with hickey until 7 seconds left and take a bad shot

why the frick did JJ stop running the offense completely with 2 minutes still left in the game. you understand it with the last possession because you wanted to take the last shot but the two possessions prior are inexcusable.

Agree. Completely inexcusable that Stringer, who had the hot hand, didn't even touch the ball on the final couple possessions.

And how the frick didn't he call a timeout when we had the inbounds play under our own goal with like 3 seconds left on the shot clock? He was sitting on 3 timeouts at the time. At least attempt to draw up a play. We ended up turning it over on the inbound pass.

I don't have a problem with the strategy if you have a guy that can create. In college ball, you can take half a minute off the clock with one possession, so I understand milking the clock with the lead. Problem is we don't have a guy that is a creator.

milking the clock by running your offense and taking up time and getting a good shot is different from just sitting with the ball 40 feet from the rim. it was only a 4 point lead with 2 minutes to go. turning the off switch on your motion offense and just saying here you go hickey go do something at the end of the shot clock is awful coaching.

Yep, I wasn't really trying to defend JJ on the lack of timeouts in the last few minutes of regulation. For that last play, we got an open look, so I have no problems with that. But bbap's post shows that we went at least the final 2 minutes of the game, and the first 3 minutes of overtime with only scoring on two free throws when we were fouled in the back court. We did not have good shots coming down the stretch.

also on one possession hickey gets blocked and the ball goes out in the corner with 3 seconds left on the shot clock. there is less than 2 minutes left and you are inbounding from the corner.

you have 3 fricking timeouts. use one to try and get a play set up that at least gets you somewhat of a chance at scoring. possessions are crucial at that point and JJ is like naw im good.

This is the most frustrating part of blowing this game in my mind. The amount of times I have seen us at the end of halves run the clock down to nothing and take a horrible shot is unreal.

Especially when Stringer is ice cold. To me Mickey is easily our best scoring threat on the floor...plays within himself too unlike out less talented upperclassmen out there.
