So the game is basically a rush to get a titan, and judging by the videos the bots just get you it faster? Also graphically I know it's an Alpha build but how does it look?

This is something which is usually nearly complete when Alpha hits.
Alpha/Beta is about working out gameplay mechanics and bugs.

Doing something good in the game gets you a Titan faster. Killing the NPC's is worth the smallest amount of time and killing actual people is worth the most. You can also earn it faster by taking an objective in domination, injuring an enemy titans, or other stuff like that.

I read that they were using lower res textures for the alpha, but others in this thread say it looks great
