Grew up all over the state, but parents were from south of Lafayette. The whole summer and Christmas break we spent with the grandparents /family hunting and fishing with them.
Started about six y/o fishing. Killed first teal on water at 8, first deer I was 11.Although my brother and I hunted with dad and grandfathers, my moms brother is probably the greatest outdoorsman I have ever met. He taught my brother and I everything. Some things he probably should not have(ie more ducks than supposed to), but shooting, safety, hunting and fishing. Thinking back on it lately made me appreciate all he did for us. My dad brought us plenty, but as an executive back in the 70's he didn't have lots of free time.
Spent most of my years mainly duck hunting and ran my dogs in AKC retriever trials for 16 years. My dad retired and brought my brother and I to Canada deer hunting 6 years ago. Got bit by the deer bug again and mostly deer hunt now. Only I now bring my nephews with me. I get more out of them killing the deer and being with them than if I had done it myself. Just passing it on
