Why is the 5x5 better for the avg person?
Any beginning program that focuses on compound lifts will be far better. Those programs are better because they incorporate the large muscle groups as well as ancillary muscles that are recruited to aid in the lifts, they provide the lifter with a program to follow and the weight to be lifted on each exercise, they require the lifter to increase poundages and provide the schedule to do so, they have the lifter use the queen of lifting, the squat, 3 or more times per week. Do the compounds and do them often and you will get big and strong. If you waste a day doing curls and lat pulldowns you will do more harm than good.
