I'm arguing that underclassmen in these past 2 classes leaving early as a result of LSU's recruiting philosophy. After last year LSU starting using the defections as a recruitng tool, so what influence would it have on current team members.

Schools recruiting blue chip athletes have been using "NFL ready" for more than one year.
Juniors leaving early isn't anything new. The numbers leaving last year reflected LSU's recruiting class in 2009 & 2010.
You don't think Les just decided after last season "Hey, look at this, we can use all these guys leaving to our favor" do you?

Bingo.
These guys aren't coming to become CPA's. They are coming here to get ready for the NFL.

Yes, I do. LSU was selling the path to the NFL before last year, after last year they were selling the early path to the NFL. If you followed recruiting you would notice kids in last year's class mentioning it when it was never mentioned before.

It's simply about the new CBA and low rookie cap. Even first round picks do not get huge contracts anymore. Therefore, it makes since to turn pro as early as possible and position yourself for the (much larger) second contract.
This trend is only the beginning and will impact more schools in the future.

You people are fricking amazing. Get sick of him? Really?
It couldn't possibly be the fact that he and the staff he has put together are really good at preparing players to play at the next level. That would mean he's doing a good job and Lord knows we can't admit that. It has to mean players don't like him. Has to be.
Do you think about the things you say before you actually say them?

but in some ways the question is whether or not it is better to stay one more year and maximize the first contract. lots of guys do it. aTm has had first round grades on ol the past 2 years and they both returned to school. bama had McCarron and mosely return. Oregon qb is returning. the best financial decision for some of these kids is to return to school and some (not many) choose to do it.

You can't blame a kid for leaving early or even question his reasoning if he's expected to be an early selection. Too much money on the table.
Unless you take out a costly insurance policy its better to leave early while still healthy.

Leave, stay who really cares. It's next man up. LSU will still make the money and so will the players. Who cares! Just keep winning year in and year out.

Wrong.

Alabama, FSU, UF all have around the same amount of underclassmen leaving this year.
Last I checked, Bama and Florida were each losing four. We're already at six and likely seven.
A&M is losing two, Auburn is losing two. Ole Miss is losing one.
This is VERY bad for LSU's ability to compete in the SEC West. This is two years in a row. Mass defections. Many of whom are making mistakes.

In other words, you had a really fricking stupid idea for a thread, and in less than two pages have realized how fricking stupid it was. I don't even know why I read this shite anymore.

C'mon man, you aren't that naive. These schools are selling the kids on the NFL ASAP.

Depends on the kid. If you can improve your stock enough to go in the first couple rounds, I would stay.
I guess most figure they'll impress enough at combines and workouts enough to earn a paycheck, which is all they really want.

This shocks people??
As fans, we want our best players to stay so we can win and potentially win a national championship. As players, their goal is to reach the NFL. And now with the new CBA, it doesnt matter if youre a 4th round pick or an UDFA, $$$ wise. You make the 53 man roster, you get $480k.

Please, underclassmen leaving early was rare for anyone that wasn't a sure fire 1st rounder before 2011. They are selling kids to the NFL ASAP now, because the landscape of college football and the NFL draft changed.

No. They aren't. I do love this excuse though.

It's all about the fast cash. What school can I go to where I will play as a freshman, take my bumps, make a name for myself in the second year, and then haul arse out after my junior year. It just seems like at LSU les gets the kids to come here, but then they get sick of playing for him or get into trouble and get out. Bottom line it's how can I make the money as fast as I can. Then when they don't get drafted high or not get drafted at all and don't make the teams, it's dam I should have stayed. FAST CASH!! Too many agents and scouts! Just like baseball wants them right away.
Are they really looking for a quick buck and "leaving early" though? Isn't one of the goals for a college student to finish in 4 years? If LSU doesn't want them to "leave early" then don't redshirt them.
Bennie Logan - 4 years at LSU
Barkevious Mingo - 4 years
Sam Montgomery - 4 years
Ego Ferguson - 4 years
Michael Ford - 4 years
Ricky Jean-Francois - 4 years
Just in recent years all of these guys "left early," but spent 4 years at LSU. By the time many of them went to the draft they were prob about 22 years old. With the average age of current NFL rosters right about 26 years old and the average career length being only about 6 years many of them are making the right decision for their future.
