Hosing down the roof as the temperature drops

I'd rather not waste the water.

That seems totally safe and very smart on your part. I don't see how anything could possibly go wrong. It's always advisable to add as much weight as possible to your roof.

Not to mention that icicles falling off a roof can do some serious damage to a person.

I'm sorry, I made like an adult and wrapped my faucets so doing this would be impossible for me.
Only after the wife told me I couldn't leave the sprinkler on overnight even though our trees and house would be majestic in the morning.

Don't fall.
ETA: I bet OP is just aiming the hose at the roof and not actually ON the roof. Still dumb, though.

Tree limbs all over the ground from breaking due to the massive weight of the ice collecting in it overnight and you crushed by your own roof that collapsed due to the 4 inches of built up ice.
The icicles would be magnificent, though!

Yep, gonna be awesome when one drops and pierces through a kid's head.

Go the extra mile. Use kool-aid and 7-up.

It's time below freezing that matters. A few hours won't cut it. Three days will. In BR, I don't think even pipes will freeze.

From what I've heard we may be only above freezing for just a couple of hours today, but the wind chill will stay below due to the uh, well, wind.

Those icicles have been known to fall and kill people...almost like the time one hit poor Ralphie and broke his glasses. So lucky.

It's -12 out here. My whole life is an icicle at this point.

Thanks for the great idea!! My kids are 18 and 23, so I'm not sure I can use the "for the kids" excuse. They're for my own amusement!
