The big difference is now the pay increase for 3rd rd compared to 6th rd is not a big difference. If players are picked in the 6th rd tey make similar money to the 3rd pick so if you think you could make a jump from 6th rd to 3rd rd their is no reason to hang around.

Just did some research of 3 players. Terron armstead 3rd rd pick of saints, spencer ware 6th rd pick of Seahawks, and Michael ford FA pick up by bears. Terron armstead contract 2.8 million/ 4 yr contract with 600,000 SB, spencer ware 2.25 million /4 yr contract 100,000 SB, and Michael ford 1.5 million/ 3 yr contract with 3500 dollar SB. So if FA to 3rd rd doesn't really matter much whole key is staying in league for 2nd contract. And also notice Ford if stays in league gets to 2nd contract a year earlier which could make up for basically no signing bonus
