Temple of the Dog was one of the better bands of the grunge era
Obviously, you dont hold that era in high regard (I dont either), because they weren't so much a band, but a one off recording session...
This has been done ad nauseum, but for my money... much better music was coming out of North Carolina/Boston/Minneapolis/Chicago areas at that time... Nirvana and Mudhoney (and a few others) are the only ones worth a shite out of that scene for me...

AIC and pearl jam don't hold a candle to nirvana.
The frick they don't. And add Soundgarden to the mix.

Pearl jam just always came across as shallow and cheesy "alt rock"
You should go back to arguing how Primus is not a jam band. That has more merit.

The sales figures for Ten, Vs., and Vitalogy are comparable to Nevermind, In Utero, Unplugged. Pearl Jam was every bit as big as Nirvana at the time.

If you were to do a side by side of all 3 bands and say which one comes across as the most cheesy "alt rock" - 9 out of 10 would probably say Nirvana.
That's fricking stupid. Do you know anything about nirvana?
Because you sure don't sound like it..

I lived in Seattle during the whole grunge movement... crazy shite

Ive always like Eddie Vedder in interviews, etc... But damn, if all the band names he used to drop... Fugazi, etc.. His stuff didnt sound anything like them...
He seemed like a dude of integrity that always fought the good fight...
From that doc, it seemed his biggest regret was that PJ was not allowed to evolve organically over time... they basically were thrust into superstardom and huge arena/festival tours...
On a side note, was anyone at the Tips show in April of '92... they were breaking big and honored their agreement to play there... Never been that kinda crowd there... peeps were on the roofs of surrounding building..s

Out of curiosity, how old are you? I couldnt imagine you being old enough to remember that well..

I was two years old when Nevermind was released.
I was still there though. Don't remember it, but it is the point that matters.

I actually identify with that whole Meters/Toussaint era more than grunge.
Sounds like TheDoc is just butthurt that he has never been part of a cultural revoultion

AIC and Pearl Jam are definitely not better than Nirvana IMO. Kurt wrote such raw/punk yet poppy songs. They could be completely chaotic, fragile/charming, or a combination. Pearl Jam is kinda lame arena alt-rock as someone mentioned before.
I don't think Nirvana is the best band ever but they're definitely great. I also owe a lot of my musical taste to them. They always name-dropped bands like pixies, sonic youth, vaselines, etc.
