Got her to watch a few episodes in the past but now with the marathon that started on AMC this morning, Besides a nice dinner, I can't get her off of it.

I had forgotten how good the episode where Shane shaves his head was.

I've missed a ton in the middle but have really liked all that I've seen. When do you feel it got terrible?

When the governor showed up.

With an answer like this, you were going to hate the series anyway no matter what happened. The Governor/Prison arc is such an iconic part of the GN no way it was coming down the pipe much like Negan, the Hunters etc.

Overall I like the premise of the comic/show and the majority of episodes have been good. However, many times it feels like they're rehashing/milking situations to generate the same 'ooooo it's a scary and dangerous world' vibe again and again. We're already half-way through season four and considering five years is pretty long lifespan for your average television show they need to do something… different. Yeah, I know, zombie apocalypse what can you do? But it's getting stale.

Where they go from here shows that the walkers are less of a threat than other groups are. The Governor was just the first hint of that.

Even that has been hammered over our heads for the last couple of seasons. I guess I'm saying that I hope the other groups/threats are sufficiently different from the Governor to make it interesting. It's a narrative-based show without a particularly compelling narrative. Like they're throwing in MacGuffin after MacGuffin so they can keep serving up the weekly helping of 'rawr, it's a hard 'nuff life for us.'

I think some people are predetermined to hate it because of its premise/genre. But the show is never going to stray far from the GN. And the Governor arc is the peak of the GN. I keep hearing a lot of hipsters say it is getting stale, but Season 4 up to this point has been the best critically reviewed season so far.
I mean some people hate it "for the zombies" when that is not what it is about. Its more of a post apocalyptic western set in the American South.
And it keeps going from Macguffin to Macguffin because that is what the show is. It is full of tropes for a reason, because it is an adapted comic book full of tropes itself. It is never going to be Breaking Bad, Gimple has to adapt source material. I haven't seen a show do this good but supposedly disliked since season 1 of Glee.

Well, to be fair, Kirkman is going to keep writing the graphic novel/comics so long as he's making money. I don't necessarily mean that as a pejorative but it's more a 'day-in-the-life' type of situation. Seinfeld with zombies!

Believe me I mod a walking dead fansite, I have some issues with the show. But it kills me 90 percent of the criticism relates not to the show itself but to the source material and the fact the author of said source material is the show runners boss.
Right or wrong, it gets unfairly compared to Breaking Bad despite its worst viewership being better than the average breaking bad episode got, and better than the best ones did until 5B. And that is with the same channel, same day, same time. I

I'm inclined to agree with the consensus. My wife liking it is a testament to the character development drama. The zombies, gore and the 'rawr' are just small side elements. In my limited experience, I think I'm a fan for the long haul.

Not sure what episode they're up to right now, but how many episodes did she watch before she started saying, "Please let Lori die soon!"?

Funny. You actually hit the mark on that one. Lori definitely is kind of a pain in the arse always placing herself in harms way.
