Just a FYI from one of the local UofL beat writers here in Louisville today:

quote:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – University of Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich said Tuesday night that the University of Texas has not asked for permission to talk to Cardinals' football coach Charlie Strong on a day when multiple news organizations reported that Strong had emerged as a top candidate for the Longhorns' job. One, the Texas web site Orangebloods.com, says Strong interviewed for the job Tuesday.

Jurich said that he did receive a call from Texas athletic director Steve Patterson Tuesday morning. "I returned the call 10 minutes after he called me," Jurich said. "He never called me back."

Jurich is in Colorado on a family vacation. Strong did not return a text message Tuesday night asking for comment.

Asked if he was concerned that he might lose Strong to Texas, Jurich said, "I don't know. I hope he's our coach. He's been a great coach here. I really believe we've got one of the top jobs in the country with everything in place that you need to win. And now we're going into a great league (the Atlantic Coast Conference)."

Two things just going on things I've seen around UofL and Jurich in the past. I don't think he's interviewed. They've been pretty open whenever a University has contacted them for permission and has spared no words against programs who don't. That said, this is the least confident I've ever heard Jurich regarding whether Strong might stay. Either Strong and/or Jurich usually comes out pretty quick in shooting down any rumors and that's not happening here.
