So has anybody actually gone to see this or is this just a bunch of people bitching about something they never saw and taking some dick bag critic's word for it?

Seriously. There is way to much of this going on in this thread.

No wonder none of these movies do well in theaters because too many dumbasses believe the movie critic reviews on rotten tomatoes and then spew that shite on the internet like its their actual opinion.

I generally like Keanu, like this type of movie, and went in fully expecting and wanting to like it. I took 3 teenage boys with me, who all spent most of the movie trying to think of 47 things they would rather have wasted their time on. It was not good. Wasn't terrible, because the imagery is awesome, it's a grand story, etc. It is a really good looking movie. Just not a good movie. The main problem was that they did not really establish the main characters and the relationships among them in the first half of the movie. You just don't get a clear picture of why the characters would want to do what they did for each other.

I had the opposite experience. I too took a son, actually 12 but my son is gifted, so he reads way ahead of his grade level. He was right there with me the whole time and we had a very robust discussion about Bushido and the Japanese culture that would prompt the self sacrifice.

Damn the critics were way off on this one. I went in expecting not to be entertained but was very well pleased with the delivery of this movie.

Decide for yourself but this one is worth a look see at the cinema.

I first heard the title and thought it was going to be historical, despite Keanu being the lead. Then I saw the previews and was thoroughly disappointed.

Who is the bigger crackpot? The critics who wrote those crappy reviews or the guy who comes into a thread discussing the merits of actually having watched the damn film only to quote the hollywood cronies?

The 47 Ronin is the single greatest historical tell in Japanese history.

Hollywood take this story and comes out with what is really a bushido the game movie, it should have been titled something else.

The real story:

Ever play bushido? It is a game, and the movie has more to do with the game than the real story.

Fighting the supernatural is one of the main game themes in this era of samurai fighting game.

Yeah I just. Can't tell iffy was a great movie ... Or the greatest movie.

But really it was pretty terrible. Also the tattooed guy in the trailers was in the movie for like 4 seconds

The story is one of the great revenge sagas. Should've been another Count of Monte Cristo.

Well you can go rent one of the 50+ jidaigeki films already made for that. Seems to me they are trying for this what worked for 300.

after doing some research on the subject, I went to see it with my boys, I did not mind it at all, entertaining, cool fight scenes. Academy award worthy? NO, worth one viewing with popcorn? YES

After reading about the actual story behind it I was hoping this movie wouldn't suck. The story/plot were great, the acting however sucked. As bad as KR was most of the other actors were way worse.

If you can look past that (which maybe really hard) it wasn't the worst movie out this year.
