I understand the point behind this thread but who cares what they are ranked? Get the guys you want, get the guys you need, develop them, win football games.

I guess I've had some time to think about this, and there is a part of me that agrees to this and a part that also says there's a bias and it matters.

Although it really doesn't matter, it does. That's honestly how they get away with it (if there really is a bias). They can justify anything by saying, "well, if we're wrong then we will see" and "the rankings don't really matter." So, they can move anyone around whenever they so see fit.

Now, major teams are catered to. LSU is one of those. Would Hootie have dropped so far if he were still committed to Bama? Who knows. I highly doubt it though and that's just my opinion.

I guess I'm just saying that it doesn't matter what the rankings are for these kids and it doesn't impact their future performance. But, it does matter because a lot of us pay for the service and for a lot of us, who wins the recruiting championship matters and it's bragging rights and a LOT of publicity (even though we try to say we don't care). We do care and that's the problem.

When you see on tv that Bama has the no. 1 class, it's frustrating. When someone gets a huge bump and a decommit gets dropped dramatically it alters our opinoin on their services. Until everyone actually admits that they care about these rankings, it will just allow them to move kids around with no repercussions.

With that said, I only have a few problems with the rankings. TQ should be a top 50 player. I think a lot of people wonder why Sims is so high. He's a good player but his current performance isn't on par with others in his position(at this point in time. Maybe he does pan out). They all know it and justify it by his measurables, which is fine and their opinion. Also, Hootie did not perform as a 5 star in the playoffs. That's why he dropped. Now, did he deserve to drop so severely? I don't know, but it caught us all as odd and 247 should have seen that coming.

Anyways, everyone have a great day.

ETA: Jc's explanation on 247 was what we've been hearing for a long time. I had no problem with what he said except for calling posters "butt hurt." That's a cop out, imo. It was basic name calling to try and make people feel silly for caring so much. But, in reality, those people pay for the service and didn't understand some things.

Well, you're right..it would be biased. The "inaccurate" isn't a good word to use, though

I'm in line with that. I understand his point about bias, and I basically agree with that. I was a little surprised that he threw inaccurate in there.

I don't think anyone would fault you for having that opinion. If it's not your bag, than it's not your bag.

My point is that if you are going to offer a service that ranks and rates recruits than you should have a pretty good explanation when faced with such obvious discrepancies. The answer given yesterday was that the guy who has proven to be slower, a sloppier route-runner, and weaker hands has "more upside". That's a lazy justification for poor work.
