Are we conceding Cannon's return as the slam-dunk "most important" play in LSU history?
It's likely to be the play most talked about for the longest period of time, but I don't know that it had any affect on LSU's trophy case other than probably locking up the Heisman for LSU's only Heisman winner (which is important I guess). But LSU lost their next game, and then lost to Ole Miss at the end of the season anyway, and then didn't win a conference Championship for another 3 seasons and a National Championship for another 45 years.
There were probably some big plays in '58 but I don't know of any so I can't comment on that.
Personally if I had to pick a single play, I'd say Mauck to Green against UGA (Round 1) in 2003.

Right. Cannon's play was the most "famous" but in terms of its importance????
Don't call me "cessed" but right now I say a missed kick in the Oklahoma State Iowa State game in 2011 is the single play with the biggest current impact on our program

Troy Twillie interception vs Auburn at end of '95 game.

If not for the goal line stand after it to preserve the win, the Halloween run would be a footnote.
