Will split tricle down into other sports?

Does it stay in just football, or will it eventually trickle down to high school baseball and basketball as well?

That's the plan of the authors of Proposal 18. It's all about more championships and not about what's in the best interest of the kids.

I haven't followed this, at all, but how is it against the best interest of the kids?

Because it will kills smaller sports in urban public schools. But hey, Dr. Griffin gets an easier road to a championship so I guess it's okay.

Why does it kill those sports?

Are you just speaking out of your arse?

I know you're talking about high school sports, but I don't know what split is. Can someone explain?

So can anyone answer how this is bad for the kids?

No, but they can repeat it enough times to make you stop asking.

In lhsaa football, as in many other states, private and public schools have separate playoff and state championship games to make up for the fact that public schools cannot recruit kids out of other districts.

It's not bad for the kids, nothing really changes for them outside of opponents.
It's terrible for the LHSAA's product because it is watered down immensely.

Oh.... no wonder I didn't know what it was. High school sports isn't my thing.

The same teams play each other all year long in the regular season. Scouts can go to any big district matchup all year long.
The playoff system, as is, gives a weaker first-round that is mostly remedied by week 2. Apart from the first and maybe 2nd game of the playoffs, how is this system 'watered down?'

I used to want to be like you, but then I attained my own inner-peace and am very happy being a loser. My mom no longer loves me, but I really do feel like it was worth it.

Hopeful doc
Compare average margin of victory this year to years past
It's watered down

In Minnesota, everyone is together. It's a joke as the private schools take WAY more state titles than they should. Classes are based on enrollment and the privates dominate the "rich kids" sports. Of course they don't admit that they "recruit," but it's not a level playing field. I wished we split the public and private schools apart. It sounds like Louisiana has their shite together. People in Minnesota public schools are outraged at the private school's advantage.

There's a big outlier this year that throws that way off, but I can see the point you are trying to make. I disagree with the notion that it is 'watered down' though because of one year of state championship games decided by 10+ points. I think there were some very good teams playing this year. I think it's appropriate that the teams that had a rather unfair advantage (resources at their disposal + able to draw people from other districts) no longer are allowed to play against what really is a different class of opponents. And in terms of the 'product' LHSAA is putting out, the original foundation of the LHSAA was to 'better regulate and develop the interscholastic high school athletic program.' I think the split has done a good job of better regulating and leveling the playing field for the athletes in underprivileged areas and low-resourced schools.
ETA- in the public bracket this year, there were the same number of 1-score games as there were last year. And only 1 less than the year before.

In Louisiana it does come into play in football, but not so much in basketball and baseball
