All very valid questions.
I think Texas boosters have been pursuing Nick for over a year. Replaced the AD to make it easier to get rid of Brown.
When UT lost early games the same vultures turned up the pressure on Sexton/Saban because they could see the end was near for Mack.
Mack rebounded and firing became out of the question. Boosters now putting the pressure on Mack to resign because of interest from Saban/Sexton.
Sexton working both sides to play each other. Gets UT boosters to buy Saban's debt but they have not authority to offer saban job at UT.
Sexton telling Bama, UT will pay Nick 10mil per year, but Bama does not have to match to keep him but it needs to be close.
Saban makes a good financial decision. Gets rid of liability to willing participants who are capable of holding the investment for an extended period of time.
Saban gets a huge raise from Bama, retires in 5 years. Sexton makes bank, but negotiates raises for AlL of his coaches prior before "the dominoes start falling". At the end of the day nothing changes, but all of Sexton's coaches get more money.

regardless of whether Saban goes to Texas, clearly the power brokers forcing out Dodds and now Brown shows that the balance of power has shifted at Texas. This may not necessarily be a good thing for the next HC.
On another note, if I owned Rick Barnes stock i would be selling that shite as fast as I can
