You should have because of this very situation. I understand Alabama not just offering without reason, but now the reason has come along and it has likely cost you your coach.

No, because once you set the bar there is always somebody out there willing to raise it. No such thing as locking Saban in. What would they have done, added a clause saying he has to pay it back if he leaves? Then Texas comes in and pays it off anyway.
