Miles' dream running offense

Only he would try to do it with the option (like with JJ) and running up the middle off tackle every first down...
But seriously, Miles must be watching this game and anchoring himself to his running-the-ball heritage more than ever.
oh boy...

Nope, not a single toss dive has been run.

Les Miles wants a running offense but one that drains the clock. He hates that Hurry Up No Huddle shite just as much as Saban

It starts with a DOMINANT offensive line to do this. We do not have this at all.

Auburn has a good offensive line, but their running game is much more successful through getting the defense to fall for the gimmicks...

Gimmicks isn't exactly the right word.
Every option offense relies on the offensive line correctly making the series of blocks they need to make. They don't have to hold blocks that long, because what is important is to make the defense hesitate. Often, they leave the defensive end unblocked, so that the QB can make him commit to one of his options before deciding where to go.
People think it's a gimmick because it has a different look and different options, but it is the same kind of philosophy that Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama won a lot of national titles in the 60s & 70s with. It is sound fundamentally, and when run properly, it's really hard to stop.
Stopping it relies on getting defensive line penetration, like we did against Oregon in 2011.
The better description would be to say it's a "read and react offense". And we better be ready to beat a better version of it next year than we saw this year.

i agree w Thorny,
gimmick is what we did on 4 n long when we tried to fake the fg

I also agree with Thorny. It's worked against some really good defenses and I wish we could get those kind of results.
Not that our run game was bad, but could you imagine Auburn's run game with our pass game and our 2011 defense? Unstoppable.

yes, those are gimmicks...

it works until defenses adjust, then it fades. That's why Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama don't run those offenses any longer. The zone-read fad in the NFL is starting to fade as well.

I second that.

Totally disagree. This is a gimmick. LINK Option plays are basic fundamental football that has been around for decades, in one form or another, and will continue to be around for decades. The basic concept is so simple - make the defense commit, then go the other way.

True of literally every offense in history. No one runs the Bill Walsh West Coast anymore, is that a gimmick?

quote:WRONG. Auburn's hurry up run system actually is designed to make it much easier on the offensive line. What LSU and Bama do require a dominant offensive line.
