How much does LOTR borrow from the bible and ancient greek and roman mythical journey epics?

Except, I would argue that Tolkien does it deliberately, much to weave those ideas together and pay homage to them. Tolkien's initial idea was to write a mythical tale for the UK. So he HAD to borrow from the history, the real history. He had a point.

On the other hand, Rowling just rips off what she writes. And she "borrows" from a lot more than Tolkien.

I've never read any of the HP books. But they've been showing the movies and I've watched most of them now. I gotta say, I think they are pretty good movies. Of course they are not LOTR's good (for me at least). But I found them enjoyable.

Still no desire to read the books though.
