Why don't you remove subjective bias and let the computers seed the top 4 conference champions.
quote:Never said it shouldn't matter. Why can't 2 of the best 4 teams/resumes come from the same conference?
If you arent the best in your conference you already lost a tournament(ex-playoff) to a better team. Why should that not matter?

I am arguing to respect the results on the field. I am against the bias of the eye test.
There are too many teams and to few games by each team to just discount a team because their in another conference.
I have no problem with the polls ranking the teams however they want After the playoff like the NCAA basketball tournament.

Again, it's unrealistic and imbalanced against teams who are not in conferences and will never be forced into conferences. You are persisting with a bad idea that is unrealistic, unfair, imbalanced, and not on the table.
Bingo, but lets be real here...
The only team in your scenario above to worry about is Notre Dame. The other teams not in a conference won't have to worry about this. LOL

So come up with another idea.

Win your bracket and stop bitching. If you can't win your bracket you aren't the best.

You might as well write your idea in a letter to Santa.

Look at the 2011 polling and it tells you all you need to know about the bull shite of the human polling process. The poll voters will try and manipulate to fit their own agenda. The computers are set at the beginning of the year and don't change. My suggestion is to only use them to rank the conference champions and to pick the top 4 and seed them.

You are arguing for a playoff and disagree with

I don't follow you at all.
If you have a 4 team playoff, the regular season isn't played to be the best, it's to be in the top 4.
What you said is really illogical to this format unless you want no playoffs.

what requiring a team to win a conference does is reduce the pool of teams eligible for a 4 team playoff... (and for the sake of discussion, Notre Dame can have up to 2 losses and other independents must be undefeated)
so instead of picking between 126 teams for a 4 team playoff, it narrows the field to 10 or 11
it gives meaning to the conference games above all others, bc those would be playoffs in their own right.
once the conference champions are determined (bc that's what every team's goal is at the start of the season), then OOC games come into play

I believe your conference tournament is your avenue to qualify for the playoff.
I do not think it is fair to discount the other teams to allow a second team from a conference definitely since you can say they were already eliminated by the other conference member in a conference playoff. How are you the best in the country if you aren't the best in your conference? For this reason I don't think you should just say the SEC is so badass lets load up the playoff with a bunch of SEC teams and just discount 110+ other schools.

quote:Your conference regular season isn't a bracket, for one thing, and yes, a conference champion isn't always the conference's best team. Oklahoma was the best Big 12 team in 2003. Tennessee or Florida was the SEC's best team in 2001. Happens all the time. No matter because your idea is really bad and really unrealistic, and you should come up with something else.

Computers, 2011
Bama - 2 2 3 3 3 3
OKSt - 2 2 2 2 3 3
These computers do not count margin of victory, of course, but the voters obviously take that into account when voting, understandably.
Margin of victory, 2011
Bama - 431-106
OKSt - 592-310
Alabama scored more than four times their opponents; Oklahoma State scored less than twice their opponents.
There was no agenda. Alabama was better than Oklahoma State.

quote:Dude, you asked this same exact question, and I answered it already lol. You can ONLY argue this if you are arguing for no playoff. Otherwise, that's irrelevant.
How are you the best in the country if you aren't the best in your conference?
The point of a playoff has nothing to do with the best team in the country, it is the 4 best teams in the country, or 8 or however many playoff teams you're going with.

bc it doesn't need to be the 4 best resumes... plus do you want to see rematches?
