NCAA Scholarship Limits

So what are the exact rules on how many kids you can take? It's 25 a year correct? When underclassmen declare for the draft does that open up another offer we can make in the next cycle?

It's an SEC rule
It's got a lot of loopholes, like back counting, grey shirting, blue shirting, etc

What is blue shirting? I know about the grey shirts and EE's.

Complicated answer but here is the skinny I believe. First, a guy declaring early for the draft helps only in the 85 total limit area, not in the number 25 yearly deal. Second, IF you signed 25 last year and they all made it into school and didn't backdate any, you can only sign 25 this year. If however, say you only signed 22 last year, you could sign 28 this year...25 for this class + 3 leftover from last class. HOWEVER, to sign those extra 3, they would have to be "early enrollees/EE". That means of course, they would have to start attending classes in January...the previous month to the NSD period in February. Hence, the word "backdating" which means those 3 count against the 25 limit of the previous class.

Blue Shirting explained well so I don't have to type myself:
Blue-shirting: This scheme was originated by New Mexico State but has not been practiced widely around the nation. Here’s how it works: Officially, a player arrives in the summer as a walk-on. Once football practice begins, he’s awarded a scholarship. The school is allowed to count the scholarship forward — against the 2015 class — but the player can play immediately.
There’s a big catch: The student-athlete may not have been recruited, as defined by NCAA bylaws. That means no official visit to campus, no in-home visits from coaches, no signed National Letter of Intent or athletic aid.
Only a handful of players, if any, would meet that criteria.

Probably not a great advantage since I put New Mexico State down among the bottom 5 programs in the FBS...maybe the worst!

Sure it is
It's a great loophole if you you want to offer a LS, K or P.
I think Tenn is doing this for the Berry twins.

LSU loses 15 srs some are walk ons
There will be several jrs declare
You'll have some players leave such as Feist, Holmes, Williams etc for playing time
LSU will probably sign 25 but could go up to 26/27 with grades affecting a few
There's probably 1/2 greyshirt possibilities and you always have 1/2 decommits

25 is the number but there are ways around it. Tenn is going to sign 30.

Yea, thanks everyone for the insight! I knew there were ways around the 25 limit, but I wasn't very familiar with all of them!

85 scholly roster limit.
To many loopholes and variables to explain yearly class limits. It's almost irrelevant. Any coach will make room for a player they really want.

Some teams seem to sign as many as they wish each year and then "process" any players not producing up to original expectations.
