Clock stopped because of the declined defensive holding on Atlanta. Rules state the clock will not reset at start when ball is put in for play during the final 5 minutes of the second half. See the Cowboys and Lions game for some reference

It should not. It should start in on the placement of the ball. That would allow a defense to commit a penalty just to stop the clock if need be, so it makes absolutely no sense.
So are you still claiming they got 4 time outs?

So on defense commit a penalty to stop the clock? Makes perfect sense!

It shouldn't but it does. It happens all the time and is a flawed system. The defense gets punished by giving you an extra down if you choose.
It's a bogus rule, but still a rule.

Def bogus. Our astute announcing crew would do us some due diligence to mention such things
I'd still like to know why holding was called, then waived off, then called again on the last drive.

Your logic is just dumb because the penalty would have given the Saints an automatic first down

The clock remaining stopped is a definite advantage to the defense in this situation, if this is really how the rule is supposed to work and wasn't just a mistake by the officiating crew.

lol, they weren't trying score...their goal was burn clock and gain first downs...how in the hell is the defense supposed to know the outcome of a play before they commit a penalty? A penalty that would have resulted in an automatic first down when their number one goal during that point in the game is to stop the Saints from getting a first down

Right. Atlanta could have just held every play if that were the rule.

And give New Orleans automatic first downs every play?
Posted on 11/22/13 at 12:55 am to LSUsmartass
It allowed them to extend the game because the clock stopped. There are circumstances where it works in their favor. I'm not sure why you are failing to grasp that a flawed rule benefitted Atlanta and gave them one last gasp.

if we already gain a first down, a penalty would benefit them
