LSU's 1908 NC claim is every bit as valid as some of BAMA's claimed championships. They are actually playing for number 9 not number 15. Former BAMA sports information direction Wayne Atcheson is who started claiming these other national championships in the eighties. He added 5 titles that pre-dated Bear Bryant to the media guide in the 1980's.

I actually had the chance to ask Joe Alleva about this yesterday. He doesn't know either.
