Are cupcake loaded schedules a disadvantage for a Miles coached team?

It seems to me, if history is any indicator, this may very well be true.
It seems as if Miles' teams do best when they have a very specific type goal in the way of an opponent to focus on. While an uber-authoritarian type like Saban, may be able to keep his team focused on "the process" while playing a garbage schedule, if we look closely at history, it is when Miles' teams get to have their schedule interspersed with crap games, that they appear to come off the rails.
The 2011 regular season appears to me the perfect example of how a Miles team can stay focused knowing they have a legitimate challenge to face virtually every week of the season. It's when they don't that we end up with a season like this.
Is this a situation where applying the conventional wisdom of 'Bama's doing it, so we have to too' coming back to bite us in the arse?

??? our three losses came to the three best teams we have played this year.

If LSU played Eastern Michigan, ULM, South Alabama, and Idaho out of conference in 2011, LSU still would have been undefeated and #1, but a certain teams SOS would have been hurt a bit, possibly enough to keep them out of that #2 spot.

So you're saying Miles wins games but only to teams we should beat?

Ole Miss is not the 3rd best team we played sorry

Who's better? Florida? I could see an argument for Auburn, but at the time we played them, they were not anywhere near where they are now.

No, because we should have beat two of those three teams.

Maybe playing better OOC competition helps when it comes to conference play?

I've thought about this to some degree.
In 2011 our first game was Oregon. Miles, the players, coaches, etc. all said that LSU prepared during the offseason much differently because of this.
The defense was essentially practicing against two offenses during practice to combat Oregon's speed of plays. It seemed to work whatever the hell they did so why don't we do this again...??? In the very least, our conditioning would be on another level as it seemed to be that year.

Possibly, however, I think this year, LSU benefitted from a weaker OOC schedule. Luckily, TCU wasn't any good because our defense, as bad as they are now, was much worse against UGA.

I don't think so. There are worlds of difference in our defensive numbers between SEC and OOC competition this year. I think opening vs a pretty good OOC team would have helped.

And this year our first game was TCU, which was supposed to have been a pretty good team this year. It's not as if we played the Idaho Vandals to start the season.

We open with Wisconsin, so even though it's not Oregon, we still have a statement game to open with. I love the 2014 schedule in terms of making the 4 team playoff in concerned. Perfect year for a somewhat watered down schedule.

Not a single team could put up that much points on that defense even if they played for 60 minutes.

No, just risks more injury. If we can even out our opponents through the year instead of playing all our cupcakes up front, then running a gauntlet before finally taking a bye before Bama, it would do use a lot better.

Dude, LSU schedules less cupcakes tham most SEC schools.
When we scheduled TCU, they were an big up and coming program, no one thought the wheels would fall off once joining he Big 12.
Look at bama's schedule. They play just as many cupcakes a we do. Ohio St. plays more. hell Oregon play freakin Nicholls state this year.
